HARFORD COUNTY - The SGT Alfred B. Hilton Memorial American Legion Post 55 recently donated over a dozen backpacks and school supplies to nine Title I Harford County Public Schools.
This effort, aimed at supporting low-income students, was coordinated by the Bel Air-based American Legion Post in collaboration with local businesses and residents.
Title I schools, which cater primarily to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, often need help to provide essential educational materials. The donation from American Legion Post 55 seeks to address this resource gap and ensure students have what they need for academic success.
"These students are the future of our community, and it is our duty to support and invest in their education," said Mountain. "The donation aims to lighten the financial load families often experience at the beginning of the academic year, enabling students to focus better on their studies," said Rev. Dr. Andee Mountain, Community Service Coordinator of American Legion Post 55.
The campaign was met with substantial support from the community, including contributions from local businesses, individuals, and American Legion Post 55 members. In addition to being functional, the backpacks were also designed to be stylish, giving students a sense of pride as they start the new school year.
"This donation will have a profound impact on our students, boosting their self-confidence and motivation to excel in their studies," said Superintendent Sean Bulson. "It's heartening to see such a strong commitment to education from our community."
This initiative adds to American Legion Post 55's extensive track record of community involvement, further solidifying its role as a critical community partner in enhancing the quality of life for Harford County residents.
