ABERDEEN - Two suspects, including a teenager, have been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder in connection with recent shootings in Aberdeen, according to the Aberdeen Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
According to police, the first incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on August 8, 2023. Police initially responded to reports of gunshots near 20 E. Bel Air Ave but were unable to find a suspect or victim. Later in the evening, a local woman reported that her 21-year-old son had been shot at while driving on the same avenue. Although a bullet hit his car, he escaped without injury.
Detectives arrested 19-year-old Jahmair Nafeis Jones in connection to the shooting on August 22 following a detailed investigation. Jones, a resident of Bannister Avenue in Aberdeen, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and firearms-related offenses. He is currently being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.
Jones has also been implicated in a second shooting incident on August 15 around 12:51 p.m. In this case, a 51-year-old woman reported that her family was targeted upon arriving home on Polk Street. Two male suspects opened fire on the family, hitting the front of their house and a parked vehicle. One of the bullets entered an upstairs bedroom where the woman's daughter and one-year-old granddaughter were resting. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Aberdeen detectives identified Jones and a 17-year-old male as the shooters involved in the second incident. Both are now facing three counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment charges.
The 17-year-old, who was charged as an adult, was taken into custody on August 30 and is also being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.
An additional 15-year-old male has been charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
According to the police, both shooting incidents seem to be targeted attacks involving gang members or their associates.
