HARFORD COUNTY - The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC) will host its inaugural public pet vaccination clinic. The event, which aims to ensure that vital pet care is affordable for all, will occur on August 5, 2023, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Whiteford Fire Company.

"Protecting the family pet from deadly and preventable diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and panleukopenia should never come down to cost," explained Bob Citrullo, executive director at HSHC.

The vaccines on offer include distemper and Bordetella for dogs, distemper for cats, and rabies vaccines for dogs, cats, and ferrets, all priced at $10 each.

Ensuring your pets receive the Distemper and Bordetella vaccines is crucial. Distemper, a serious viral illness, can lead to severe neurological symptoms and is often fatal. Surviving animals may suffer permanent damage. The Bordetella vaccine protects against "kennel cough," a respiratory illness common in pets in high-contact environments such as kennels, daycares, and grooming facilities. These vaccines are vital to keeping your pets healthy and safe.

In addition to vaccinations, the clinic will also offer microchip implantation and registration services for a flat fee of $25.

"It takes just a few seconds and can be the difference between getting your pet back immediately, waiting days or weeks to be reunited, or in some cases, never seeing that pet again," Citrullo added.

The clinic is open to all, with no appointments required. Services will be available first-come-first-served, and supplies may be limited.

Animals must be at least four months old to be vaccinated, and payments can be made via cash or credit/debit cards.

For everyone's safety, dogs must be leashed (non-retractable) with a properly fitted collar, while cats and ferrets should be securely housed in a carrier.
