According to investigators, a lightning strike had set the roof and attic of the condo ablaze. Residents reported hearing the lightning impact and soon after noticing the smell of smoke.

The fire led to the roof falling onto the third floor, which consequently triggered the collapse of other parts of the structure. The Harford County Emergency Medical Services confirmed that all residents were evacuated successfully. Officials said that one individual was assessed at the scene and later sought further medical attention at a hospital.

Investigators declared the building a total loss, and the displaced residents are now receiving support from Harford County disaster assistance and the Red Cross.
