HAVRE DE GRACE - As of Today, June 15, 2023, drivers in Havre de Grace will need to adjust to a new traffic pattern on the 800 block of Erie Street. The change has been implemented due to escalating safety concerns and property damage caused by heavy traffic, including overweight trucks, in this residential area, according to the Mayor's Office.

The 800 block of Erie Street, located off U.S. Route 40, will be converted to a one-way street for eastbound traffic only. This modification is part of an emergency measure declared by the mayor in response to the adverse effects of high volume traffic in the region.

In a statement, Mayor Bill Martin said that residents have reported considerable property damage and voiced safety concerns due to the heavy traffic and overweight trucks utilizing the narrow residential street as both an entrance and exit point to U.S. Route 40. The new one-way traffic pattern is an attempt to mitigate these issues, promising a safer and more orderly flow of traffic on Erie Street.

Residents with questions or concerns regarding the new traffic pattern are encouraged to contact the city office by calling 410-939-1800, extension 1138.
