HARFORD COUNTY - Officials are warning Harford County residents about a scam tied to jury duty calls.

Callers are posing as judiciary employees and law enforcement agents acting on behalf of the jury commissioner. They tell potential victims that they failed to appear for jury duty and ask for people's Social Security numbers to confirm who they are and then request financial information and money to pay a fictitious fine or bond so they don't go to jail.

"Do not give the requested information. Instead, call the Jury Commissioner's Office ... and your local law enforcement agency ... immediately," the Harford County Circuit Court posted on its website. "Never give personal information when answering an unsolicited phone call or email message. Jury service is one of the most important civic obligations that citizens have."
