HAVRE DE GRACE - Harford County Council member Jacob Bennett was not present at Tuesday’s meeting of the Harford County Council.
Last week, the Harford Circuit Court ruled that Bennett cannot serve on the council while employed as a Harford County Public Schools Teacher.
At the meeting, Council President Patrick Vincenti addressed the room regarding Bennett’s ongoing legal battle.
“Throughout this process, council members, staff, and myself have been extremely transparent with our communications,” Vincenti said. “We will continue to serve citizens of Harford County while [Bennett] navigates through the legal system.”
Bennett released a statement on his Facebook page saying he looks forward to returning to his work as a council member.
“While I am disappointed to not be at the meeting tonight, I look forward to having all court cases resolved in the coming weeks and returning to the important work of representing District F, the community that elected me as their representative,” Bennett said in a statement.
In his statement, Bennett thanked council president Patrick Vincenti and the rest of the council for their support.
“Throughout this ordeal, Council President Vincenti and the rest of the council members have been transparent in communication, emotionally supportive to my family and I, and helpful in ensuring that the important work of representing District F carries on.”
Bennett also clarified that the “Harford County Council has taken no negative action” against him and said that the issue was “taken upon” by the County Executive, Bob Cassilly. The embattled councilman encouraged anyone concerned about his situation to contact Cassilly’s office directly.
