HAVRE DE GRACE - Aberdeen Proving Ground has scheduled controlled burns on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents may smell or see smoke during the operation.
According to a statement from the installation, APG has made efforts to minimize the smoke impacting on-post and off-post residential communities.
The controlled burning is coordinated with the APG Fire Department and is “the safest and most cost-effective way to maintain APG ranges due to unexploded ordnance concerns.”
Controlled burns are performed under APG’s Installation Wildland Fire Management Plan, which addresses potential fire risks, and keeps the landscape prepared for testing and training activities.
Those living in the surrounding communities with concerns or questions are encouraged to contact the installation at 410-278-4500.
