HARFORD COUNTY - Harford County Public Library has announced its 2023 winter reading program, “You Are What You Read,” running through March 4.

To complete the 2023 challenge, adults must read or listen to at least five books, and high school students should read or listen to at least three books.

Once the reading is complete, successful participants will receive a free 2023 collector’s mug! (while supplies last).

HCPL is also announcing the “passport to wellness” program, where residents are given a passport book in which they can collect stamps from local businesses.

Participants can earn stamps by logging activities such as: going to restaurants, ordering takeout, shopping, and visiting entertainment venues in the community. Beach Bee Yoga in Havre de Grace is among this year’s participating businesses!

The winter reading program is another excellent way to obtain stamps! Registering for winter reading, picking up a passport to wellness, attending a winter reading program at a local library, or visiting a Harford County Public Library other than their home library are all ways to earn a passport stamp.

Once a participant has collected eight stamps on their passport, they are eligible for a free 2023 Winter Reading keepsake tote bag (while supplies last).

Activities included in the passport program include:

  • a Get Up and Go series with Zumba
  • walking and yoga
  • healthy recipe swaps
  • a mini-art show exhibition at the Havre de Grace and Norrisville libraries
  • freestyle painting
  • Dance Battle Gaming
  • Dungeons & Dragons
  • book discussions at library branches.

Finally, the library is offering custom “swag bags” which can be earned by attending library programs and events, participating in social media postings and using digital library materials.

To register, visit hcplmd.org/winterreading or stop by any branch to sign up.
