HARFORD COUNTY - For anyone wondering why Harford County flags are at half-staff, County Executive Bob Cassily has ordered they be lowered in honor of former Sheriff William Kunkel, who recently passed away.

All Harford County flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise on December 16 to sunset on December 19.

Cassilly issued the following statement regarding his passing:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Sheriff Bill Kunkel. I knew Sheriff Kunkel as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and community servant. Bill and his family remain in my prayers,” Cassily said. “In honor of his memory and 18 years of service as the Harford County Sheriff, I have ordered the Harford County flag to be flown at half-staff from sunrise on December 16 through sunset on December 19 to coincide with his interment.”
