HARFORD COUNTY - For anyone wondering why Harford County flags are at half-staff, County Executive Bob Cassily has ordered they be lowered in honor of former Sheriff William Kunkel, who recently passed away.

All Harford County flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise on December 16 to sunset on December 19.

Cassilly issued the following statement regarding his passing:

β€œI am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Sheriff Bill Kunkel. I knew Sheriff Kunkel as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and community servant. Bill and his family remain in my prayers,” Cassily said. β€œIn honor of his memory and 18 years of service as the Harford County Sheriff, I have ordered the Harford County flag to be flown at half-staff from sunrise on December 16 through sunset on December 19 to coincide with his interment.”
