HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 2, and the Ontario-Otsego Positive Action Committee (OPAC) is hosting an event to celebrate.

The National Association of of Town Watch founded National Night Out in 1984 to involve communities in crime prevention. Annually, the event provides an opportunity for neighbors and members of law enforcement to come together, promoting partnerships between police and community members.

This year OPAC is promoting the affair as "Neighbor's Night Out," complete with live music and community groups. Law enforcement, city officials and others will participate, organizers say. Eddi Salim will perform reggae, folk, blues and jazz music. Organizers say they plan to promote drug prevention, generate support for Neighborhood Watch and raise awareness about police programs.

While the event is billed as bring your own beverages and snacks, nearby the Lock House Museum will provide refreshments from 5 to 8 p.m. at 817 Conesteo Street.

"Neighbors's Night Out" will begin in the 600 block of Ontario Street at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
