HdG Little League Softball Heads To CT After Winning State Title
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — After winning the state championship last week, the Havre de Grace junior softball team will be traveling to Connecticut on Wednesday with eyes on the regional title.
The team of 12 players will compete in the East Region Junior Softball Tournament through Monday. If the team wins, it will play in the Junior Softball World Series in Washington state.
“They’re really well coached,” Havre de Grace City Council President Jim Ringsaker said at Monday night’s City Council meeting, where he touted the state title. “They work really hard.”
Ringsaker pitched the idea to the public of helping the team, which he said was headed to the regionals in New England.
Read about the Maryland state championship game from The Aegis, which reported the score was 16-5, with Havre de Grace beating out Hughesville.
For the trip to Connecticut, the team aims to raise $16,000, and as of Tuesday, it had exceeded $12,000. In addition to the online fundraiser, the girls held a car wash and raffle.
Since the organization is a nonprofit, donations are tax deductible.
“Reach out to them, throw them a couple bucks,” Ringsaker said. “It would really help them.”
