COVID-19 In 21078: As Variant Spreads, See ZIP Code Data
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Coronavirus is again spreading in Maryland and Havre de Grace, as a new variant has reportedly become dominant.
In Havre de Grace, there have been 2,936 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, according to the Maryland Department of Health's July 11 data for the 21078 ZIP code.
The BA.5 variant is driving a new wave of the virus, resulting in 100,000 new cases a day across the country, according to The Washington Post, which reported experts are concerned that reinfection can have a cumulative effect on people, particularly who are already vulnerable.
In Havre de Grace, state health officials report Citizens Care Center had 10 cases of the virus as of last Wednesday; Lorien Bulle Rock had one case. Each week congregate living facilities report on the number of cases that have been documented among residents or staff in the last 14 days.
Maryland saw more than 1,900 new cases and 17 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the Maryland Department of Health reported on Monday. In February and March, the state was seeing new cases in the hundreds.
In Harford County, the most recent positivity rate is 10.84 percent, slightly higher than the statewide positivity rate of 9.76 percent.
Harford County has had the eighth highest number of cases in the state, with 42,323 reported cases of the virus. Jurisdictions with the most cases statewide are Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, Howard County and Frederick County.
