HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Four boaters were rescued by the Susquehanna Hose Company after their vessel lost power on the Fourth of July, according to fire officials.

After 5:30 a.m. on Monday, the hose company's fire boat rescued the group off the shore of Spesutie Island, where their boat was taking on water.

The rescued boaters were taken to Tydings Park, where none needed medical services, according to the Susquehanna Hose Company.

Boaters in Harford County were not alone; 44 distress calls were received by the Fifth Coast Guard District's command centers, which cover the region from South Carolina to New Jersey, resulting in Coast Guard members helping 55 people, the Coast Guard reported.

Most calls were from those aboard disabled, grounded or capsized vessels or boaters in distress due to medical emergencies, severe weather or reported fires, officials said.
