ReplyAs sick as I am right now, I might be walking the whole thing, but I am signed up. This is easy compared to dunking into 38 degree water, right Sean? Although I do plan on doing that again in January too!

ReplyI know what it's like because my dad lost his job twice when I was in school thanks to plant shut downs back home. It feels awful to be left behind! If anyone reading this is able to spare a few a few dollars, send it in and we can help these kids. I know not everyone can with the economy being what it is.

ReplyKarl, if you'd ever experienced the pain of having that happen, you'd not be so heartless about it. It is all too real for those that go through it.
And as for the phoney comment, totally uncalled for! The situation I mentioned really happend and how DARE you imply otherwise!
And yes, as I already stated, I'm aware of powers of attorney and such, but it's the principle here. A POA and a marriage license are both legal documents, but gays only have the right to one and not the other.
And FWIW, how the heck does gay marriage disrupt civility and order in our society? If you're talking morality that's different. But civility and order? Sounds more like prohibition than a marriage issue.
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here. Just stating things from my point of view and experience. Too bad some of you can't do the same without stooping to call someone's post phoney.

ReplyI want to add that in 2010, I lost one of my two best childhood friends. Robin was gay and unable to marry her partner of more than 15 years. When she was in the hospital ER after suffering a pulminary embolism, they didn't want to let her partner have a say in her medical care. Her nearest family member was 1500 miles away. When she died, her partner couldn't claim the body because she wasn't the next of kin.
Now we could go into a discussion of power of attorneys and all of that, but the simple truth is, they should have been allowed to marry just like any other loving couple. I sent Pilar a sympathy card on the loss of her spouse because that is what Robin was, regardless of a piece of paper making it legal.
And I know beyong a shadow of a doubt that when Robin got to the Pearly Gates, she was welcomed in with open arms. God loved her and she Him. She was an amazing, compassionate, giving human being and I am proud to have known her for over 35 years.
