Havre de Grace Firefighters Train with National Expert
The Susquehanna Hose Company practiced getting victims out of vehicles at Stancill Field.
Ten vehicles were torn apart at Stancill Field in Havre de Grace on Saturday. The automobiles were donated so the Susquehanna Hose Company could practice rescuing victims. Leading the training was Ron Moore, extrication specialist and contributing editor for Firehouse magazine, who emphasized the methodology involved in a rescue operation. Moore also instructed the firefighters that changes in vehicles—like electric cars, which have batteries located in different places than other types of cars—mean adapting traditional practices. The Oct. 27 exercise involved prying parts of vehicles apart, smashing glass, cutting electrical systems and other maneuvers. VIEWFINDER: Mornings in Havre de Grace
Ed Rybczynski shares sunrise photos taken recently from the Havre de Grace shoreline.
Photographer Ed Rybczynski—whose everyday images can be found on his website—shared photos of the sun rising over the Susquehanna River. He recently surpassed 300 days of shooting sunrises in Havre de Grace. Ed was featured on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation website for photographing six months of Havre de Grace sunrises, which can be seen in full on his Facebook page: Havre de Grace Sunrise 365. Ed has also created a calendar, which is for sale in local shops.
