Approximately 75 people turned out for the Havre de Grace Veterans Day ceremony, hosted by the American Legion Post #47 at Tydings Park. Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty was the keynote speaker after the veteran scheduled to speak had a family emergency. “Family first,” Dougherty said in his remarks, which focused on how veterans are part of creating a greater whole. “Our life has been shaped by each and every veteran,” Dougherty said. "Those we honor today, those who serve the country, they are our real heroes. These are the hidden heroes of a peaceful nation." Is there a veteran you are honoring today? Find out what's closed and where to honor veterans in Harford County.
Government offices in Harford County will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, for Veterans Day, including those in the municipalities of Havre de Grace, Bel Air and Aberdeen. Monday trash pick-up will continue as scheduled in Havre de Grace. Veterans Day is officially Sunday, Nov. 11; however, Monday, Nov. 12, is considered a federal holiday. Most federal offices and the majority of banks will be closed. There is no mail delivery through the U.S. Postal Service on Veterans Day. In addition to local government offices, the Harford County Waste Disposal Center will be closed Monday, and Harford Transit will not be operating. Sorry I missed it. I wanted to go and honor my Grandfather and Uncle who served in the Armed Forces. I too served but was during peaceful times only incident I was involved in was the first bombing of Libya.. more ›
