UCBAC: 11 Region Champs in Harford & Cecil Counties

A by-the-numbers look at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's performance in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association postseason tournament.

Five Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference teams will compete Tuesday in hopes of continuing their quests for a state championship. Two of them will square off for a state title. Conference Commissioner Bob Slagle offered a glimpse at the numbers behind the conference's postseason success: Region champions, according to Slagle, included: "Perryville boys and girls track, Harford Tech girls track, Edgewood boys track, Fallston boys and girls lacrosse, Bo [Manor] and Bel Air baseball, Patterson Mill boys lacrosse, CMW girls lacrosse and Perryville softball." Tuesday will be a busy day for some of those teams. Fallston and Patterson Mill meet in the Class 2A/1A boys lacrosse championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville. …

This Week: 5 UCBAC Teams Seek State Titles

The MPSSAA state finals are being held this week in lacrosse, baseball and softball.

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference will be guaranteed of at least one trophy returning to Harford and Cecil counties, as five teams compete in the MPSSAA baseball, softball and lacrosse state tournaments. Fallston and Patterson Mill meet in the Class 2A/1A boys lacrosse championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville. Also competing this week are the Bel Air and Bo Manor baseball teams, and the Perryville softball team. They'll play in state semifinals on Tuesday with hopes of reaching the state finals later this week. Bel Air plays North Hagerstown at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Anne Arundel County. Warriors Baseball Advances To Region Final

Havre de Grace defeated Perryville, 5-4, with a thrilling finish Wednesday at Stancill Field.

The tying run rounded third base and was halfway home, but the Havre de Grace baseball team was already celebrating Wednesday. After senior left fielder Bobby Smith's diving catch finished off classmate Christian Glassman's complete game, the Warriors enjoyed a dogpile in shallow left field. They'd earned it. The Warriors rallied to break the tie in the top of the seventh, and Glassman closed out the win in the bottom half of the frame as the Warriors advanced with a 5-4 win against Perryville at Stancill Field. The victory avenged a pair of regular season losses to the Panthers, and puts the Warriors in Friday's region final. Softball: Havre de Grace Eyes Revenge At Perryville

The Warriors and Panthers meet in a Class 1A region semifinal Wednesday afternoon.

This time around, the Warriors are hoping to have a one-run advantage when the game ends. After two close contests in the regular season, the Havre de Grace and Perryville softball teams clash Wednesday in a winner-take-all battle in the Class 1A North region semifinals in Cecil County. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Perryville High School. Havre de Grace is looking to avenge two regular season defeats at the hands of Perryville—which defeated the Warriors, 2-1 and 8-7 in April contests.  A win will push either team to the region championship, which would be held Friday against the winner of the other semifinal—Bo Manor and Carver A&T. UCBAC Softball: Warriors Seek Conference Title

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference released final standings on Tuesday.

The Havre de Grace girls softball team won the Susquehanna Division regular season title, earning the Warriors a spot in Wednesday's conference championship. Havre de Grace and C. Milton Wright will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harford Tech with their sites set on the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship. The MPSSAA is releasing brackets for region tournaments this week. Boys and girls lacrosse brackets came out Monday. Softball will be posted Tuesday, and baseball on Wednesday. Warriors Softball Wins James Harris Tournament

Havre de Grace won its annual tournament behind big hits and great pitching.

Megan Thompson pitched the Warriors to a Game 1 win and Taylor Smith provided the power throughout as the Havre de Grace softball team cruised to the James R. Harris Tournament championship Saturday in Havre de Grace. The Warriors won the opener against Fallston, 7-0, as Thompson tossed a three-hitter. Smith was 2-for-4 with two homers and three runs batted in to lead Havre de Grace's eight-hit attack. Smith struck again in the title game, homering once and driving in four runs in a 2-for-3 performance as the Warriors slid past Harford Tech, 11-1. Riley Arnold went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Kayla Vaughan went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Rebecca Ashman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Thompson and Hailey Bethke were each 2-for-3. Havre …

Warriors Softball Wins Behind Thompson 2-Hitter

Havre de Grace defeated Bel Air in Harford County softball action Thursday.

Havre de Grace used a complete game from the pitcher's circle to defeat Bel Air in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference softball game Thursday. Megan Thompson tossed a two-hitter in a complete-game effort as the visiting Warriors toppled Bel Air, 5-2. Thompson also helped her own cause by doubling twice in three at-bats and driving in three runs. Rebecca Ashman went 2-for-4 with a run batted in. With the win, Havre de Grace improved to 2-0. The Warriors aren't leading their respective divisions in girls basketball, boys basketball and wrestling, but Havre de Grace's teams have division records at .500 or better.
