VIDEO: Plunging Into Frigid Waters At The Duck Dunk

The Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk was held Saturday at the Havre de Grace City Yacht Basin at Tydings Park.

About 30 brave souls plunged into the water Saturday at the second annual Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk. At 10 a.m., the participants—who raised money to benefit the city's volunteer fire company—dunked into the City Yacht Basin at Tydings Park. Some dunkers plunged more than once, and many had a specific reason for dunking. Share your experience in the comments below. Stay with Patch for more from the Duck Dunk. ___ Have your own video or photos? Post them here.

VIDEO: Funny Things That Seagulls Do

A seagull stole a woman's camera and shot a San Francisco sunset recently. What's the funniest encounter—near home or at the ocean—that you've had with a seagull?

Seagulls. They've been called the pidgeons of the beach. They've probably made an otherwise pleasant walk evening on the Havre de Grace waterfront a stressful one—buzzing about while you walk The Promenade or threatening your picnic in Tydings Park. But have they ever stolen something from you? A tourist in San Francisco posted the video here on YouTube after a bird nabbed her GoPro camera, flew over the water and left it—not so gently—to rest a few hundred feet away. It made for a really cool video. But it also opens a fun conversation for those of us in a waterfront city like Havre de Grace. TELL US: What's the craziest encounter you've had with a seagull or other waterfowl in Havre de Grace? Leave a comment.

Havre de Grace Honors Heroes on Memorial Day

Havre de Grace held a remembrance at Tydings Park Monday.

The smell of grills and the sight of family gatherings could be seen throughout Havre de Grace Monday, marking the observance of Memorial Day.  Add your photos to the slideshow. With the sound of bagpipes heard in the distance, a brightly colored historic plane flying above, and memorial wreaths lying near the monument, Monday’s memorial service at Tydings Park honored those who served.  “Today we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mayor Wayne Dougherty said. “Today is a somber day of reflection. We should each and every day remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom; those who served with pride. VIDEO: Icy Dip For Duck Dunkers

The inaugural Duck Dunk was held Saturday morning at the Havre de Grace City Yacht Basin.

If the idea of jumping into the chilly water at the City Yacht Basin didn't deter them, a little winter weather certainly wouldn't stop them. The participants in the first ever Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk hopped in with both feet—and arms, and in some cases, entire bodies—to support the city's volunteer fire department. For more, and to add photos, see this post from earlier in the day. Did you attend Saturday's Duck Dunk? What was the most memorable part? Tell us in the comments.

From the Editor's Seat

Saturday We Dunk

Patch editor Sean Welsh and his wife are participating in Saturday's Duck Dunk.

I used to sit on my grandparents' sailboat on Pier 6 at the City Yacht Basin as a kid, watching a dog take flight off the dock at the launch ramp, soaring after a toy thrown by his owner. On Saturday, I'll be the dog. In virtually the same spot the dog used to plunge into the refreshing summer water, I'll be joining a couple dozen dedicated lunatics in taking the plunge—or dunk, rather—for charity. My wife, Liz, and I will be participating in the inaugural Duck Dunk to benefit the Susquehanna Hose Company. Patch is one of the sponsors of the event, too. Look for our logo on the shirts they'll be giving to dunkers and selling to spectators. You might say that Havre de Grace Patch is all-in on the Duck Dunk. I'm just not sure how "all in" …
