POLL: Should September 11 be a National Holiday?

Tuesday will mark 11 years since the United States was attacked by terrorists.

President Barack Obama has called for a national day of service to remember the attacks of September 11, 2001, on Tuesday. Do you think the day should be honored in other ways? We want to know if you think 9/11 should be a national holiday.  Take our poll below and tell us in the comments how the nation should remember the thousands of lives lost in the World Trade Center's Twin Towers, the Pentagon and on United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, PA. Are you holding an event for September 11? Add it to our Patch calendar.  Check out the photos with this post, which include some by Annapolis Patch Editor Anna Staver, who was in Manhattan during the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.

Patch spotlights how the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 have changed our lives.

With the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks approaching, Patch and Huffington Post are highlighting how the tragic events of that day have defined the last decade. We spotlight parents still coping with the loss of children in the attacks, area firefighters who carry on the memories of their fallen comrades and residents inspired by the volunteer spirit following the terrorist strikes that turned their lives around. Today, we feature two stories from Towson. TRACY MILLER Tracy Miller's son, Nicholas Ziolkowski, enlisted in the Marines in July 2001. "He was not a great student, and he saw the military as a place where he could excel," Miller said. "And he did." Two months after he had enlisted, the Sept. 11 attacks changed …

Congrats Mr. Bousa on overcoming a huge obstacle in your life and becoming stronger for it! All the best. I don't know why anyone would post snarky comments here but it's nice to see someone doing something nice for the community as well as overcoming personal demons. Why does it matter to you if it was aided by God or not? It's not a long article, if you're not interested just skip it. Thanks …   more ›

johnny, I also felt that "purpose and connectedness" was a wonderful thing; a great potential for this country that has since been squandered. That overwhelming sense of purpose was cashed in on by Cheney, and his gang of corporate warmongers. The Homeland Security Funding (a Hitler-esque term if ever I heard one) has been used by municipalities in ridiculous manners to take away people's rights …   more ›
