UPDATE (6:05 p.m.)—An accident involving a motorcycle and at least two other vehicles on the Conowingo Dam was reported at about 4 p.m. Sunday, Maryland State Police confirmed. U.S. Route 1, near the dam in Darlington, closed for about an hour and 45 minutes after the accident, police said. Two crash victims were transported—one by helicopter and another by ambulance—to Christiana Hospital in Delaware for treatment, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. UPDATED (Thursday, 8:30 a.m.)—U.S. Route 1 remains closed at the Susquehanna River after a tractor trailer hauling fuel caught on fire on the Cecil County side of the Conowingo Dam late Wednesday. Maryland State Police at the North East barracks said traffic remained closed as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The accident, first reported by Patch, took place around 11 p.m. Wednesday. According to Harford County Fire and EMS spokesman Rich Gardiner, a medevac helicopter was en route to the area shortly before 11:30 p.m. to transport one patient. Emergency radio communications indicated that as much as 3,000 gallons of fuel was spilled, but Gardiner said he did not know how much fuel the truck was carrying.
