A fire inside an Edgewood home on Monday may have been the result of arson, state fire officials say. Shortly before 8 a.m., a neighbor noticed a fire inside a two-story, split-level home in the 800 block of Fisherman Lane, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Harford County Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner noted in a post on the organization's Facebook page that crews from Joppa, Abingdon, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Bel Air, White Marsh, Fallston and Kingsville responded to the fire. The fire caused about $160,000 in damage to the building, according to the release. Two men were transported to area hospitals with burns after a flash fire Thursday on Robin Hood Road on the outskirts of Havre de Grace. The fire took place in the 100 block of Robin Hood Road around 7 p.m. Thursday in the back yard of a residence, where a pile of brush in a large fire pit—ignited by gasoline—burned two victims, the Maryland State Fire Marshal said in a release. Patrick Mitchell, 25, suffered first- and second-degree burns and transported himself to Harford Memorial Hospital, the fire marshal said. Two vehicles were burned early Sunday morning in Havre de Grace. The Susquehanna Hose Company and Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office responded to both incidents and determined the preliminary cause of each to be incendiary devices, according to the fire marshal. At 2:03 a.m., the fire marshal responded to both the 600 block of Ontario Street and the 700 block of North Adams Street. A 2006 Mazda 3 on Adams Street sustained $6,000 in damages after a fire originated in a passenger compartment of the vehicles, according to a statement from the fire marshal's office. Firefighters contained a barn fire in Joppa in less than an hour Wednesday night, but not before the blazed cause significant damage. Around 8:11 p.m., the property owner discovered her 12-by-50-foot barn in the 1600 block Philadelphia Road was on fire, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office. Forty firefighters from Joppa-Magnolia and Abingdon Volunteer Fire Companies in Harford County, Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County and Aberdeen Proving Ground's professional fire department responded to the scene, according to fire officials. A public hearing was held for a proposed bill that would not require one- and two-family homes to have sprinkler systems.
Bob Schott stood outside of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company house and watched a flame climb up a wastebasket full of newspaper and spread to a hanging white curtain. One minute 11 seconds later a smoke alarm sounded inside the glass-paneled trailer. Seconds later the overhead sprinklers turned on and doused the flames. Schott, a field marshal with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, set the fire as part of a demonstration for the Harford County Council prior to a hearing on a bill that would end a requirement that newly built homes have the systems installed.
