C. Milton Wright Wins Harford County Swim Title

The Mustangs won the regular season crown, led by an undefeated girls team.

The C. Milton Wright swim team won the regular season championship in Harford County. The Mustangs girls (15-0) led the way for the team, which also went 15-0. The boys were 14-1. See the full standings included with this post. The county swim championship is scheduled for Feb. 5 and 6 at Magnolia Middle School. Have photos of your team in action? Congrats to CMW for the win, and to ALL the SWIMMERS who worked just as hard and did an amazing job!!! This was the WORST hosted HS event EVER! The people that ran it were on major power trips and nothing but RUDE! Sad that you cant even go to a High School event and enjoy the teams there and the people.. Harford County Under Tornado Watch

The watch will run until 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.

Harford County was placed under a tornado watch Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service. The watch was issued at 6:39 p.m. and set to expire at 2 a.m. Thursday. The following is a Connect CTY message from Harford County: Good Evening, this is Emergency Manager Rick Ayers with an Emergency Message. Harford County has been placed under a Tornado Watch until 2 AM. Therefore, I ask that you monitor the weather and take appropriate shelter if necessary. The county could also experience flash flooding, tidal flooding and high winds this evening and overnight. UPDATE: Body Recovered From Aberdeen Proving Ground Pond

Emergency personnel were alerted to a possible drowning on post Wednesday.

UPDATE: (7:18 p.m.)—A person died on Aberdeen Proving Ground after an accident at an unexploded ordinance range pond Wednesday afternoon. Around 2:30 p.m. Susquehanna Hose Company's dive team was notified of a possible drowning on post by Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department, the Susquehanna Hose Chief Scott Hurst said Wednesday. The team arrived at the scene shortly before 3 p.m. to assist, Hurst said. The person involved died and the body has been recovered, according to a release from the U.S. Army Garrison public affairs office. The victim's name has not been released pending family notification. No further information was available as of post time.

Harford County Recycling Ranks 2nd in Maryland

Harford County now trails Montgomery County in recycling in Maryland, officials said.

Harford County has seen a 40 percent increase in recycling since its first full year of running a single-stream program, starting in 2011. But even with the increase, the county has dropped from No. 1 in Maryland to No. 2, officials said Tuesday. Harford's 59 percent participation rate is trailed only by Montgomery County, according to county recycling officials.  “We can out-do them. Let’s make that a goal,” Council President Billy Boniface said Tuesday after viewing a presentation on the program. O'Malley Rolls Out $37.7B Budget Proposal

The governor touts $325 million in cuts even as proposed spending increases by 4 percent over the current levels.

UPDATED (6:32 p.m.)—Gov. Martin O'Malley Wednesday presented his budget plan for the coming year that he called "a jobs budget." The budget contains no tax increases though O'Malley declined to discuss the possibility of a tax for transportation projects. "These have been challenging times to say the least," O'Malley said. He was referencing the seventh budget of his tenure as governor at the same time that the state has weathered one of the most severe economic downturns in history. O'Malley said Maryland taxpayers "expect their government to do more with less." The proposed $37.3 billion spending plan is for the 2014 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
