Warriors Boys Win Region Soccer Title

The Havre de Grace boys soccer team beat Perryville Tuesday to advance to the state semifinals.

The Havre de Grace boys soccer team beat Perryville, 2-0, Tuesday night to advance to the state semifinals for the second straight year. The visiting Warriors took the lead when Austin Sylvester's shot deflected off a Perryville defender in the first half. Gabe Larrimore added a second-half goal as Havre de Grace picked up a win on the road.  Havre de Grace (8-9) will face Brunswick (16-1-1) Saturday at North County High School. Warriors Boys Soccer Proceeds to Regionals

Girls soccer lost to Sparrows Point Friday, while Warriors boys soccer landed a win.

In a game that went into double overtime Friday, the Warriors boys soccer team came away with a win, securing a spot in the regional playoffs. Tyler Hartman made the winning goal for Havre de Grace, bringing the final score against Sparrows Point to 1-0, with the Warriors on top. Next, the boys proceed to regional finals in Perryville, said Warriors Athletics officials on Facebook. That game will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5. Admission is $5. The girls soccer team lost to Sparrows Point, 2-0, on Friday. Sparrows Point will play Perryville in the regional girls soccer finals Monday at CCBC.

Warriors Soccer Teams Head into Playoffs

After putting away two wins on Thursday, Havre de Grace focuses on Friday's matchups against Sparrows Point.

Both Warriors soccer teams netted wins Thursday and will proceed to the Division 1A North Region semifinals Friday. The Havre de Grace girls soccer team won, 5-1, against Western School of Technology and Environmental Science on Thursday. The girls will travel to Sparrows Point High School for a 3 p.m. game on Friday. The Warriors boys soccer team also brought home a Nov. 1 win. On penalty kicks, the team claimed a 2-1 victory in a matchup against Overlea. The boys take on Sparrows Point on Friday at 3 p.m. in a game at CCBC Dundalk. Warriors Girls Soccer Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Soccer players from Havre de Grace wore pink socks at an Oct. 17 game.

The Havre de Grace girls soccer team is getting a leg up on women's health. The team wore pink socks in its game against North East on Oct. 17 to raise awareness about breast cancer. "All of the parents were proud of their daughter’s support of such a worthy cause," said Michele Nye, whose twin daughters are on the Warriors soccer team. "Obviously, if breast cancer is not cured, statistics show that some of OUR girls wearing the pink socks could/will develop breast cancer later in life." >>See the Havre de Grace Breast Cancer Awareness Guide. Girls Volleyball: Warriors Lose Close One

Perryville defeated Havre de Grace in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference match Monday.

The Warriors girls volleyball team went five games against Perryville Monday, ultimately losing to their Susquehanna River rivals. Perryville won the decisive fifth game, 15-13, after rallying to win Game 4, 25-16. Perryville opened the match with a 25-13 win before Havre de Grace won Games 2 and 3 by scores of 25-17 and 25-23. Rebecca Ashman had a team-high 10 kills, along with two aces and "countless saves and assists" in a player-of-the-game-effort, according to coach Alaina Schleich. Sarah Scott accounted for 24 points, including five aces, along with four kills. Emilee Bubb had 15 points and two aces, as well as seven kills. Samara White had seven kills and 12 points.
