Havre de Grace Safe Prom Team Reaches Goal

Parents and students achieved their goal of funding buses for the 2012 prom.

Havre de Grace's Safe Prom committee has reached its goal. The parent and student volunteer group raised enough money to fund at least five buses to transport students from Havre de Grace High School to the Inner Harbor for the April 28 prom. With a fundraiser Saturday, the group raised approximately $1,000 dollars to reach the necessary funding to accommodate all students who wish to ride a coach bus to Baltimore. "The junior class has worked very hard," parent and school nurse Colleen Haffey said. "We were very shorthanded Saturday. The students worked their tails off. We were packed for four hours." Like Ducks, Participants Dunk Into Icy Chesapeake

The inaugural Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk was held Saturday morning.

It was weather for a duck. Perfect, really. The inaugural Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk was held Saturday morning at the City Yacht Basin in Tydings Park, hours after snow and ice blanketed the Upper Chesapeake Bay area. More than 40 people plunged into the frigid waters of the Yacht Basin via a recently-revamped launch ramp. Air temperature barely reached the low-30s. Some dunkers went completely underwater, others went most of the way in. While some ran for the cover of heated tents, a few brave souls mustered up the courage for a second dunk moments after coming out of the icy water. Some dunkers raised more than $500 in pledges to the Susquehanna Hose Company, the beneficiary of the charity event. Did you attend the Duck Dunk? …

Pre-Party Scheduled For Duck Dunkers

The inaugural Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk is set for Jan. 21.

Thanks to the landscape of the Susquehanna River's bed after September's flooding, Tidewater Grille can't host the inaugural Duck Dunk. But it can throw a party the night before. The Duck Dunk pre-party will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 20 the waterfront restaurant and bar. Drink specials will include $2.50 Yuengling and Coors Light drafts and special duck-themed shooters for $4. There are also deals on bar food: $5 wings, $9 ribs and $12 combos. And $1 from every drink purchased at the bar will be donated to the Susquehanna Hose Company. A silent auction of Shawn Forton art will be held, and a pair of Vincenti Decoys will be raffled.
