Lacrosse: Fallston Eliminates Warriors Boys, Girls

The lacrosse season came to a close Monday for both Havre de Grace teams.

The Havre de Grace boys and girls lacrosse teams were eliminated from the Class 2A/1A region playoffs Monday. Fallston defeated both teams in high-scoring wins at James R. Harris Stadium. GIRLS » Fallston 20, Havre de Grace 4 Fallston got out to a double-digit lead by halftime and cruised to a win, eliminating Havre de Grace, 20-4. The Cougars advance to the region final. Havre de Grace goals were scored by Carly Thompson, Margaret Stump, Colleen McCormick and Kylee Barber.  Thompson had six draw controls. Abbie Blessing made 11 saves. Boys Lacrosse: Warriors Win 14-5, Advance

Havre de Grace defeated Rising Sun in boys lacrosse Thursday.

Casey Brown scored four goals and assisted on six others as Havre de Grace defeated Rising Sun, 14-5, in the Class 2A/1A East region playoffs Wednesday at James R. Harris Stadium. The Warriors will visit Harford Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal of the District VII sectional. With a win Friday, the Warriors would advance to next week's regional title game. Havre de Grace pulled away on Wednesday with six goals in the second quarter and five more in the third. Brown scored his four goals on six shots, while Justin Gosnell—playing in limited action as he rebounds from an injury—scored three goals on seven shots. Brian Cameron split time between the crease and the field. In goal, he made 11 saves. On attack, he scored two goals …

Lacrosse: Warriors Set For Playoffs

Havre de Grace's boys and girls lacrosse teams know their opponents for the playoffs.

The Havre de Grace boys and girls lacrosse teams are set for the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association playoffs. The Warriors learned their opponents for the upcoming MPSSAA tournament. See the PDF files with this post depicting the brackets with the full slate of games. The Havre de Grace girls host Joppatowne at 6 p.m. Friday in the Class 2A/1A South region second round after both earned first-round byes. With a win, the Warriors would either host a semifinal round game or visit Fallston. The Warriors boys visit Rising Sun at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a Class 2A/1A East region first round clash. By winning, Havre de Grace would either visit Harford Tech or host Perryville, pending the result between the two potential opponents…

Sports Recap: Warriors Weekend Results

The Warriors won Friday after Bel Air defeated Havre de Grace on Thursday.

The Warriors boys and girls lacrosse teams suffered losses Friday, while the softball team got back on track with two homers from Taylor Smith. Below is a recap of the action from Friday. If you have photos or video of the Warriors in action, add them to this post. The Warriors softball team lost to Bel Air, 12-7, on Thursday afternoon before winning a Friday clash with Elkton. Havre de Grace took to the road and defeated the Golden Elks, 10-0, in six innings behind a pair of homers from Taylor Smith. Smith finished with six RBIs, belting one of her homers on the third pitch of an attempted intentional walk. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Run Away From Cobras

Havre de Grace won with a big second half.

The Warriors boys lacrosse team closed on a 7-0 run in the second half to defeat Harford Tech, 11-5, Monday evening at James R. Harris Stadium. Justin Gosnell scored twice in the final minute of the first half to bring the Warriors close, trailing the Cobras, 5-4, before Havre de Grace shut out Tech after halftime. Havre de Grace avenged a loss to Tech in last year's MPSSAA playoffs and improved to 7-1 overall. Gosnell finished with four goals and 16 ground balls. "Goose also controlled most of the faceoffs," Warriors coach Brooks Brown said. Casey Brown had two goals and two assists. Nick Burley had a goal and an assist. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Topple Elks

Havre de Grace has won five straight to open 2012.

The Warriors boys lacrosse team got four goals each from Justin Gosnell and Chris Anderson in a 14-3 win at Elkton Monday. Havre de Grace has started the season 5-0. Gosnell added a team-high nine ground balls, while coach Brooks Brown credited long-pole midfielder Donald Matts with helping maintain possession with seven ground balls. Brian Cameron had two goals and two assists. Casey Brown had a goal and two assists, while Nick Burley had a goal and assisted on another. Brad Davidson, Connor Haffey and Keenan Villareal added one goal each. Havre de Grace is off until 6:45 p.m. on April 11, when North East visits James R. Harris Stadium. Havre de Grace improved to 3-0.

The Warriors boys lacrosse team turned out the lights on Rising Sun by halftime, cruising to a 12-5 win Tuesday in Cecil County. Havre de Grace improved to 3-0. The Warriors built a four-goal lead in the first quarter and led 8-1 at halftime. Rising Sun didn't get on the board until the final six minutes of the first half, as Warriors goalie Brian Cameron made seven first-half stops. Derek Freels added five saves in the second half. Chris Anderson scored five goals, while Justin Gosnell scored three, adding an assist and seven ground balls. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Ground Eagles

Havre de Grace defeated Aberdeen to improve to 2-0.

Justin Gosnell scored six goals for the second straight game and the Havre de Grace boys lacrosse team rolled, 17-1, against Aberdeen Friday. The Warriors improved to 2-0 after blanking Edgewood in Wednesday's opener. Casey Brown had two goals and a team-high five assists. Nick Burley, Chris Anderson and Brian Cameron scored two goals each. Burley and Anderson also had assists. The Warriors had goals from Chris Schulz, Brad Davidson and Keenan Villareal. Gosnell, who has 12 goals in two games, added a team-best seven groundballs. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Blank Rams

The Havre de Grace boys lacrosse team won its season opener.

Senior Justin Gosnell scored six goals and Havre de Grace rolled to a 15-0 win against visiting Edgewood Thursday. The Warriors led by six after the first quarter, and held an 11-0 advantage at halftime at James R. Harris Stadium. Gosnell had two assists and six ground balls. Keenan Villareal and Ryan Wilson had two goals each, and freshman Nick Burley had a goal and three assists. Donald Matts had a goal and an assist, while Brian Cameron, Connor Haffey and Brad Davidson scored single goals. Chris Anderson had one of the Warriors seven assists. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Move Up, Forward

Havre de Grace joins the elite Chesapeake Division in 2012.

The reward for winning the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's Susquehanna Division in 2011? A schedule that features second-half road games at Bel Air, C. Milton Wright, Fallston and North Harford. Coach Brooks Brown starts his fourth year with the Warriors after going 8-6 in 2011. Brown said the Warriors are "looking to get better everyday and play as a team." Three starters return from last year's division champs, including senior midfield/attack Justin Gosnell—the Warriors leading scorer in each of his first three seasons with the program.
