Havre de Grace defeated its Cecil County rival Thursday.
The Warriors girls lacrosse team turned a one-goal halftime advantage into a 20-11 win against Perryville Thursday evening at James R. Harris Stadium. Havre de Grace, which led 8-7 at the break, pulled away to improve to 6-2. Carly Thompson scored five goals with an assist to lead the Warriors attack. Haley Dean had four goals and Margaret Stump scored three and assisted on two others. Katie Thompson had two goals and an assist, while Eva Villareal and Briana Haffey had two goals each. Kara Neiberlein and Haley Stewart had single goals. Rebecca Angelini had one assist. Abbie Blessing made 12 stops in the Warriors goal. Drew turned himself in to police at the Havre de Grace Police Department. Giles Street, 800 block, 11:51 p.m. on April 17. David Alan Cuffley, 26, of the 800 block of Giles Street was arrested on a Harford County Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges. A woman participating in a local running event found her wallet laying open on the floor of her trunk after leaving her purse there while involved in the event. The investigation is ongoing. Erie Street, 700 block, 10 a.m. on April 14. Robert Hall, 31, of the 700 block of Erie Street was arrested and charged with threatening to burn down a neighbor's home. Havre de Grace defeated Rising Sun Thursday.
The Warriors girls lacrosse team used a strong first half to pull ahead in an eventual 12-8 win Thursday at Rising Sun. Goalkeeper Abbie Blessing made 13 saves for Havre de Grace, which improved to 4-2 overall. Carly Thompson had two goals and two assists, while Haley Dean, Brianna Haffey, Margaret Stump and Katie Thompson each had two goals and one assist. Eva Villareal had two goals. Havre de Grace defeated Aberdeen Tuesday at Stancill Field.
Keith Sifford threw a complete game and the Warriors baseball team defeated Aberdeen, 7-2, Wednesday at Stancill Field. The win evens Havre de Grace's record at 5-5. Sifford struck out four and walked four, scattering 13 hits on 109 pitches for the win. Dan Jamison, Logan Poore and David Amici had two-hit games for the Warriors. Amici doubled and drove in two runs while scoring two more. Jamison tripled and scored a run. Poore had an RBI. Dominick Bolen had an RBI double and two runs scored. Luis Nieves-Gonzalez, Andy Meiselwitz and Christian Glassman added hits in the nine-hit attack. Aberdeen committed seven errors, essentially negating the 14 hits from the Eagles offense. The Kelly-Miller Circus benefits the Level Volunteer Fire Company.
After a successful debut last year, the Kelly-Miller Circus returns to Level in June. The shows will be held at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on June 9 at the Legends of the Fog Show Grounds at the Aldino Sod Farm. The circus will benefit the Level Volunteer Fire Company. "Last year’s Circus was a huge success with nearly 2,000 people in attendance," Level Volunteer Fire Company Assistant Chief Rhonda Polk said. The event features tigers, elephants, camels, dogs, ponies, clowns, aerialists and acrobats in a one-ring set-up. Havre de Grace defeated Aberdeen in softball Wednesday at Stancill Field.
Hayley Kitts threw a complete game and the Havre de Grace softball team defeated Aberdeen, 17-1, in a mercy-rule shortened game Wednesday at Stancill Field. Kitts struck out four and allowed just three hits and a walk in the complete game effort. Riley Arnold doubled twice and singled once, scoring three times. Taylor Smith singled three times and scored three runs. Hailey Bethke, Emily Lewis and Kelsey McRoberts each had two singles and two runs scored. Rebecca Ashman singled once and scored two runs. Mitch Shank would have preferred to be sitting in the corner office at City Hall, serving as Mayor of the City of Havre de Grace this spring. Instead, Shank spends three afternoons a week at Davita Dialysis in Aberdeen, receiving dialysis treatment after losing a kidney in November. It was shortly after the May 3 election last spring—when incumbent Mayor Wayne Dougherty earned his third term in fending off the challenge from Shank—that the former City Councilman began feeling ill. “I was really feeling miserable,” Shank said. “From the election on, I was not myself.” By the fall, Shank was hospitalized, spending three weeks at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Harford County Sheriff's Office is seeking a male in his 40s.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office released images Wednesday morning of a man they say robbed the Cecil Bank on Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace Tuesday afternoon. Monica Worrell, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said the man is described as a clean-shaven, 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, in his mid-40s wearing a dark blue baseball cap, blue shirt and blue jeans. He ran away in an area behind the bank, Worrell said. The man came into the bank around 3:15 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. There was no weapon used and no injuries were reported, Worrell said. Residents in the area of the Greenway Farms neighborhood reported police activity in the woods along Mohegan Drive following the incident. Havre de Grace police …
