UCBAC Standings Heading Into Championships

UCBAC Championships are on the way.

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference released updated standings Thursday morning in advance of championship matchups. The Bel Air Bobcats are wrestling champions in the Chesapeake division while Aberdeen Eagles hold the wrestling championship title in the Susquehanna division. In basketball, the Edgewood girls are champions on the Chesapeake side while Aberdeen took home the Susquehanna title. Boys basketball standings underwent a major upset after Aberdeen forfeited all games before Feb. 1 for using an inelligble player, leaving Joppatowne on top. Football: 3 Cecil Teams, Hawks Alive In Playoffs

North Harford was the lone Harford County team to advance to the MPSSAA postseason.

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference landed four football teams in the MPSSAA region playoffs, but just one from Harford County. North Harford will be the lone representative from the county, while in Cecil County, UCBAC schools Perryville, Bo Manor and Elkton have advanced to the postseason.  It marks the first time since the UCBAC was created in 2003 that Harford County has just one representative in the football playoffs. Football Stars Get Fit Before College Camp

Get Fit Boot Camp readies local athletes for college and high school with rigorous workouts.

Chris Askew had never thrown up during a workout before this summer. All James Smith wants to do at the end of a workout is sleep. Brenton Barnes has never worked harder, and is in the best shape of his life. Eddie Escobar has put on muscle and has all-conference status in his sights. Thanks to Get Fit Boot Camp, these local football stars are heading into their summer camps at college with a leg up against their teammates when it comes to winning a starting job. The four freshmen—Askew and Smith from Havre de Grace, Barnes from Aberdeen and Escobar from Perryville—spent the final weeks of summer working out with Havre de Grace grads Jeff Brochu and Richard Simpson. BOYS LACROSSE: Warriors Run Away From Cobras

Havre de Grace won with a big second half.

The Warriors boys lacrosse team closed on a 7-0 run in the second half to defeat Harford Tech, 11-5, Monday evening at James R. Harris Stadium. Justin Gosnell scored twice in the final minute of the first half to bring the Warriors close, trailing the Cobras, 5-4, before Havre de Grace shut out Tech after halftime. Havre de Grace avenged a loss to Tech in last year's MPSSAA playoffs and improved to 7-1 overall. Gosnell finished with four goals and 16 ground balls. "Goose also controlled most of the faceoffs," Warriors coach Brooks Brown said. Casey Brown had two goals and two assists. Nick Burley had a goal and an assist. Donald Matts scored twice and assisted on another goal. Chris Anderson had four "key" ground balls, Brown said. …
