UPDATED (9:20 a.m.)—MD Route 136 was closed to traffic Thursday morning after a serious crash in the Churchville area and may remain closed until noon. One person was killed in the crash, WBAL and ABC 2 News are reporting. The crash, which occurred on the 300 block of Priestford Road, left at least one person with "grave injuries," according to Rich Gardiner, spokesperson for the Harford County Fire & EMS Association. One person was taken by land to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after the two-vehicle crash, according to The Baltimore Sun. Harford County has a new branch, the Department of Emergency Services.
Harford County's first head of emergency services will be announced on Tuesday. County Executive David R. Craig said Friday the head of the county's new Department of Emergency Services would be unveiled in a formal announcement Tuesday morning in the Harford County Council Chambers. Craig issued an executive order to create the department in 2012 after it was recommended by the Harford County Fire & EMS Commission and the Harford County Public Safety Commission, according to Craig's office. A Level Volunteer Fire Company fireman helped save a dog's life during a fire Monday.
Chase—the dog rescued from a fire Monday on Aldino Road—and his family visited Level Volunteer Fire Company Tuesday to give thanks to the team that saved his life. Check out the photo above, which was posted on the Harford County Fire & EMS Association Facebook page. In that post, association spokesman Rich Gardiner wrote: "The family and dog from the Aldino house fire made a surprise visit to the Level VFC yesterday. Here is a pic of the whole group. A Level firefighter helped save a dog's life Monday on Aldino Road in Churchville.
A local photographer caught a powerful image of heroism during a fire Monday afternoon in Aldino. Dean Nicewander, an Aberdeen resident, shared a photo showing Level firefighter Clinton Polk applying his own oxygen mask to a dog. Aldino Road is closed Monday afternoon as crews respond to the scene of a house fire on the Harford County road. The fire took place around 2:30 p.m. Monday at a two-story home in the 3600 block of Adlino Road, according to Rich Gardiner of the Harford County Fire & EMS Association. Crews from Level, Aberdeen and the Susquehanna Hose Company reported smoke coming from the rear of the house, Gardiner said. He added that no injuries were reported as of 2:45 p.m. At that time, the road was closed due to fire equipment blocking the traffic lanes, Gardiner said. Six people were injured in a crash Saturday evening in Jarrettsville. Harford County Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner, via posts on Twitter and Facebook, said the accident took place at the intersection of Baldwin Mill Road (MD Route 165) and Centennial Oaks Drive. Four ambulances were called to the scene for varying injuries, none of which were life-threatening, Gardiner said. The inital post came around 5:40 p.m., and indicated three ambulances were en route to the crash, which involved a minor entrapment. Approximately 50 firefighters were on the scene of a two-alarm fire early Thursday morning in Webster Village. Crews from Level, Aberdeen, Susquehanna Hose Company and Cecil County responded to the fire around 4:37 a.m. in the 4000 block of U Way, according to a post on the Harford County Fire & EMS Association Facebook and Twitter pages. UPDATED (12:15 p.m.)—Four Harford County fire companies responded Saturday morning to assist with a fire at a home in Perryville. The two-alarm blaze took place in the unit block of Ellis Street in Perryville. The Susquehanna Hose Company responded to the scene and helped put out the fire, according to according to Susquehanna Hose Company Chief Scott Hurst. Crews from Aberdeen, Darlington and Level aided, filling in for responding Cecil County companies, according to Harford County Fire & EMS spokesman Rich Gardiner.
