The clearing of the main channel into the City Yacht Basin could be complete next week.
The dredging of the channel into the City Yacht Basin is under way. A dredging boat was spotted in the channel late last week. Larry Parks, director of public works for Havre de Grace, told Patch Tuesday afternoon that the dredging of the channel into the marina should be done by the middle of next week. Parks said Ray Nornes, Inc. of Berlin, MD—the company contracted to do the dredging—will clear out the area around Hutchins Park next. The same company dredged the City Yacht Basin last winter. Some dunkers raised more than $500 in pledges to the Susquehanna Hose Company, the beneficiary of the charity event. Did you attend the Duck Dunk? …

A local version of the Polar Bear Plunge will debut in 2012.
Polar bears plunge at Sandy Point Park. A few miles up the Chesapeake Bay in Havre de Grace, ducks dunk. The Susquehanna Hose Company is hosting the first ever Duck Dunk in 2012, a fundraiser that will see participants raise money and "dunk" into the frigid winter water at the City Yacht Basin. The event will take place Jan. 21 at the newly-refurbished boat launch ramp located at the foot of Tydings Park. Dunkers pay $35 to participate. They are asked to seek donations (see form with this article). The event is being run in partnership with Tidewater Grille. The original plan called for the dunk to take place at the cove just north of the waterfront restaurant. But flooding from Tropical Storm Lee in September changed those plans, as silt …
