HdG Schools to Have Police Through School Year

The Havre de Grace City Council approved expansion of its school resource officer program during a meeting Tuesday.

The following is a recap of the Jan. 22 City Council meeting as Patch documented the event live from City Hall. 8:44 p.m. The meeting adjourned. 8:42 p.m. Mayor Wayne Dougherty declared that his favorite NFL player was Ray Rice and he only hoped that Rice got more playing time at the Super Bowl. Councilman John Correri asked that the City Hall be illuminated in purple. Councilman Bill Martin went on record with his Super Bowl prediction: 34-17. Once again the city leaders let emotion get in the way of sound fiscal management. I agree with putting police officers in the County Schools. I don't agree with the City of Havre de Grace funding officers that the County shold provide, but for some unknown reason refuses to do.   more ›

Havre de Grace Mayor: 'The Biggest Thing is to Vote'

The City Council discussed annexation, auditing, bonds, voting and 'Superstorm Sandy' at its Nov. 5 meeting.

The Havre de Grace City Council adopted two resolutions during Monday's regular meeting at City Hall: one to annex a portion of Old Post Road and another to amend the terms of the city's water bonds. A public hearing will take place Dec. 3 so citizens can comment on the proposed annexation. Havre de Grace City Council set a pair of public hearings to discuss legislation introduced during Monday's regular meeting. Council will hear public input on proposed alterations to the road code, the water & sewer fee process and the city's taxicab code. Council also approved two public events during the meeting. After reading this, I'm trying to figure out where Chief Jeremy Mothershed is coming from. It appears the Havre de Grace Ambulance Corp is not 100% volunteer. The Harford County EMS Foundation has a EMS person, that are PAID through Harford County, at the station 24 hours a day. That one person can drive the ambulance to the scene and a paid paramedic, stationed at Level fire house can meet them …   more ›

Osman, Budzynski Presented Keys To The City

Patch recaps Monday's City Council Meeting via notes from a live blog at City Hall.

Havre de Grace City Council honored four students and a former teacher in a 101-minute meeting Tuesday night at City Hall. Beloved Hall of Fame teacher Don Osman was presented a key to the city. So, too, was Boys & Girls Club activist Quynh Budzynski. Mayor Wayne Dougherty delivered a statement on the city’s second quarter finances. Police Chief Teresa Walter revealed a 34-percent crime reduction in the second half of 2011 as compared to the second half of 2010. Director of Public Works Larry Parks said the dredging at Tydings Park is scheduled to be done by Friday. Council Passes Forest Conservation Ordinance

Havre de Grace also unveiled its new city website during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Havre de Grace City Council passed an ordinance concerning forest conservation in a 62-minute meeting Tuesday night at City Hall. Council also recognized resident Ned Colburn for his contributions to the city. The Winter Wonderland Committee within the Chamber of Commerce was also recognized for its efforts to create a festive environment in Havre de Grace during the holiday season. A new city website and three television screens in council chambers were also unveiled Tuesday.
