A bomb threat was made Wednesday to the Mary Risteau Multi-Service Center which houses Harford County District Court.
For the second time in less than two weeks, the state office building in Bel Air that houses Harford County District Court was evacuated in the wake of a bomb threat—this time for more than two hours Wednesday. No device or immediate danger was found in the Mary Risteau Multi-Service Center at 2 S. Bond Street on either occasion. Bel Air Police were dispatched to the building at 11:04 a.m. on Feb. 6, after a bomb threat was made, Bel Air Police Chief Leo Matrangola wrote in an email to Patch Wednesday. The year-old Harford County Traffic Task Force has lead to more than more than 6,800 traffic citations.
Harford County has a traffic problem—and local law enforcement want the public to know they're taking it seriously. A main part of their efforts include the Harford County Traffic Task Force—involving the sheriff's office, Aberdeen Police Department, Bel Air Police Department, Havre de Grace Police Department and the Maryland State Police (Bel Air and JFK Barracks). While it has been in place on a trial basis for about a year, a memorandum of understanding made it official on Tuesday. In an effort to combat the high rate of traffic fatalities and accidents in Harford County, local law enforcement formed the unofficial traffic task force in 2011 to target certain areas for enforcement and raise driver awareness. Around 11:29 a.m. an employee at the Harford County Health Department received a bomb threat.
UPDATE (1:45 p.m.)—The Harford County Health Department was evacuated Wednesday after a health department employee received a bomb threat. Employees were allowed to return to the building shortly after 1 p.m. "Right now it's under investigation," Bel Air Deputy Police Chief Rick Peschek said as employees returned to the building. Around 11:29 a.m. an employee of the health department, located at 120 S. Hays Street, received a bomb threat, according to Bel Air Police Chief Leo Matrangola. "They elected to evacuate the building," Matrangola said. National Night Out brought together community members and county organizations Tuesday night.
Several organizations in Harford County supported "America's night out against crime" Tuesday evening, as residents and community organizations poured into the Target parking lot in Abingdon. Harford County joined more than 15,000 communities nationwide for the 28th annual celebration of National Night Out, an event that encourages residents to interact with their neighbors and other community organizations. While the TwirlTasTix, a baton-twirling team from Bel Air, performed in the center of the Target parking lot, children and their families spoke with members of the county police force and fire department. I agree with Mark. I see this almost daily, and it's usually the State Police who are exercising their "do as I say, not as I do" powers.   more ›
