Thursday was an evening of celebration and reflection for Harford Community College and its 2013 graduating class. This was the first class to graduate in the new Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union Arena on campus. "Harford Community College continues to be a great resource for our community," Lyle Sheldon, president and CEO of Upper Chesapeake Health, said during his commencement address. Sheldon said the Class of 2013 ranges in age from 17 to 68. "I congratulate you on investing in yourself," Sheldon said. Sheldon also encouraged the Class of 2013 to "live personally" by being thoughtful and intentional in everything the do, to volunteer and give back to the community that has nurtured them.

The son of the American Legion Post 47 commander and the sister-in-law of a Havre de Grace city councilman got through the tornado unharmed.
The fire was reported at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
The Susquehanna Hose Company made quick work of a fire reported on Alliance Street Thursday night, according to Chief Scott Hurst. A house fire on Alliance Street at Young Street in Havre de Grace was reported at approximately 8:15 p.m. When crews arrived, Hurst said they found a small fire inside a residence, and put it out within one minute. According to Hurst, no one was injured.
Unpredictable weather has pushed back the Havre de Grace High School jazz band's performance.
The Jazz by the Bay concert, scheduled for Thursday evening, was postponed due to impending storms. It has been rescheduled for May 29. During the annual event, the Jazz Ensemble from Havre de Grace High School performs on the Promenade. The show has been a tradition since 1995, according to Band Director Rick Hauf. "It is designed to be an enjoyable way to end our year with a concert in a truly beautiful setting," Hauf said. See last year's Jazz by the Bay performance. Jazz by the Bay will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, on the Promenade near the Decoy Museum.
The brunt of the severe weather is anticipated in late afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of Maryland, including Harford County, Thursday afternoon. Severe thunderstorms, which may produce strong winds and hail, could sweep through Havre de Grace and surrounding areas, according to the weather service. The forecast shows that 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday is when the storms are most likely to occur. A small craft advisory is in effect Thursday and Friday on the Chesapeake Bay.

Police received two calls reporting the sound of glass breaking nearby. Police found a resident had accidentally broken two glass items inside. Pulaski Highway, 1200 block. 5:09 p.m. on May 21. A ring was lost. Tydings Road, 700 block. 3:20 p.m.on May 21. A 55" TV from Rent-a-Center was stolen from a house. The theft occurred at 2 p.m. on May 20. Juniata Street, 600 block. 9:48 a.m. on May 21. A theft was reported. No further information was available.
The lift gets fish over the massive Conowingo Dam.
For more than 20 years, the fish lift atop the Conowingo Dam has been helping scaled wildlife up and over the structure. This week, the lift began its heavy spring season, WJZ reports. The dam's general manager told the station the lift moved 1.1 million fish in 2012 several stories above the Susquehanna River. The lift, installed in 1991,releases water from the top of the dam, creating an artificial current that attracts fish. WJZ repotts a particular target of the lift is the American Shad. Biologists catch shad at Conowingo and inject them with hormones to speed production, according to the report. The lift was turned on for the season on April 1, and has seen 11,134 fish pass through since then, according to statistics kept by the …

The president of Havre de Grace Main Street spoke with Patch Wednesday.
Charlie Hiner, who is the president of Havre de Grace Main Street, said its board of directors will be meeting soon to discuss "recent events." In a phone interview with Patch Wednesday, Hiner said: "The board will be getting together to discuss recent events that were in the Patch this weekend." On Friday, Havre de Grace Patch published an article about a letter that MacGregor's sent to the Main Street board resigning from the organization. The owner of MacGregor's, Dan Lee, wrote that he believed Main Street had "lost its moral compass" in electing a convicted child sex offender to its board of directors.
