Harford Wage Gains Rank High; O'Malley Eyes More Jobs

Harford County workers saw an increase in pay last year, while Gov. Martin O'Malley lays out one option for more jobs in the area.

The statistics indicate Harford County workers saw healthy increases in pay wages in 2011.

And Gov. Martin O'Malley sees room for improvement.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Harford County ranks among the top 25 municipalities nationwide in wage increases.

The information posted on the Department of Labor website also stated: "Harford County recorded the fastest over-the-year wage growth among Maryland’s eight large counties and the third-fastest nationwide, rising 8.8 percent from the second quarter of 2010 to the second quarter of 2011."

Among a series of blog entries on the topic Wednesday, O'Malley suggested "BRAC-related safety and capacity improvements" as a "real project that would create jobs" in Harford County.

As for Cecil County, O'Malley recommended that jobs would be created by extending "the MARC Penn Line from to Elkton to Newark and Wilmington, DE."

Harford County jobs have gotten a boost from the influx of new workers and residents as part of the movement. The , but more employees of Aberdeen Proving Ground are anticipated in the next year or so.

O'Malley's suggestion for capacity improvements likely points to the theory that in the near future.

Sure glad we all got the influx of jobs and higher property values from BRAC. What a crock, the whole BRAC thing was a crock. I don't know where he has been, but traffic on 22 out of Aberdeen is already a nightmare.

We are working 4 jobs between the 2 of us to support our family of 4 to ensure our children get what they need! I am growing sick an tired of working myself sick and tired while others try to make themselves look great at their community's expense!

I am a married woman working 80 hours bi- weekly and my husband works EXTREMELY LONG hours to support a family...WE have two children a daughter getting married a son who graduates this year and has EVERY intention to attend college for further education DOES the political circle in our county/state realize the cost of supporting your graduating senior to attend a college that will help him/her to have a promising future ?Yes we are doing EVERYTHING we can to bring the cost down and we also have required him to help us in this process so he relizes the hard work it takes to make this happen. On this road to college WE the parents have many costs ...application fees,SAT fees,,the gas it takes to visit the perspective colleges....it goes on and thru all this you as a parent do not want to tell this aspiring ADULT....WE cannot afford anymore on app fees,Not going to happen !!!!!!So hence WE work harder and harder and at the end of the day or should I say pay period...We worked harder and came home with LESS!!!!!HMMMM!!!!!!Now my life as a parent goes on MY beautiful daughter will have the wedding she has always dreamed of and my son will get the best education possible WE the parents will be tired, grouchy, wore out with sore feet and hardly able to stay awake on our week-ends off because of the long exhausting week has taken a toll on us>>>>But at the end of the day we do what we do for our children and their future....And why u ask.. it is simple....WE ARE PARENTS!!!!!

The Governor is counting the high paying civilian jobs that were transferred into APG that skew the numbers to make it look good. Local people are constantly being told no raises that's assuming they can hold onto the jobs they have.

Is anyone really surprised by the B.S. the governor keeps spouting? Everyone I know here in Harford County keeps complaining about no pay raises. Who has gotten the pay raises the gov is talking about?

Exactly right. Sort of like the way he took the Ferderal Stimulus and used it to balance the budget!!

Probably the Gov himself. I don't know anyone in Harford Co that has gotten more than a 4 % increase in years. That doesn't even cover the cost of living increase. Much less the rising cost of gas, graceries, insurance, property taxes, every day consumables , etc............ Where do the politicians get their info from. Complete B.S.
