Brown: More To It Than Simply Being 'Our Turn'

Resident Dave Brown chimes in on the desire for a new high school in Havre de Grace.

Resident Dave Brown offered this take on the push for a new school:
———

While I like the simplicity of our new high school for Havre de Grace banner cry of "IT'S OUR TURN," this is far from our most compelling argument. In fact, I hope that the school board prioritizes capital investments of much more important things such as safety and security of our students—which by the way, are our most compelling arguments. Two city streets going right through our high school campus present significant safety and security issues that must be rectified and can only be fixed by relocating Havre de Grace High School. Perhaps the longer version of our banner cry should read: "IT'S OUR TURN—OUR STUDENTS NEED A SAFE AND SECURE PLACE TO LEARN."

Is it our 'turn' or is it our 'entitlement'?
To me, I see equal opportunity in education as an entitlement.

I'd like to see a plan as to how we would fill a new building with exceptional learning opportunities for our kids.
