A 13-year-old is facing charges in connection with a burglary and assault on Vancherie Court over the weekend, Havre de Grace police said Tuesday.
Police said that at 2:19 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to an assault reported at a home in the 100 block of Vancherie Court.
A 13-year-old knocked on the door and when the victim opened it, forced himself inside and assaulted the victim, who was also a 13-year-old male, according to the Havre de Grace Police Department.
"This incident stemmed from the suspect believing rumors that the victim wanted to fight," according to Pfc. Jeff Gilpin, spokesman for the Havre de Grace Police Department, who said the two boys lived in the same neighborhood.
Police said the victim had minor injuries to his legs and declined medical treatment.
Furniture and a glass door were damaged inside the home, causing an estimated $200 in damage, police said.
The suspect was charged with burglary, second-degree assault, destruction of property and trespassing, and the case was referred to the Department of Juvenile Services, police said.
According to Gilpin, the suspect was released from the Havre de Grace police station to the custody of his parents.
The Havre de Grace Police Department provided this information; an arrest does not indicate a conviction.
