Maryland State Police say a 38-year-old Havre de Grace man is in custody and a 37-year-old Aberdeen man is in the hospital after a shooting outside of Aberdeen Wednesday night.
Neighbors called police just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when they heard what sounded like gunshots in an apartment house on the 3300 block of Churchville Road, according to a statement from Maryland State Police (MSP).
Preliminary investigation revealed that the Aberdeen man was kicking and banging the door to a second-floor apartment in the rear of the house, yelling that his former girlfriend was inside with the Havre de Grace man, said police. Moments later, neighbors reported hearing gunshots and three people left the apartment, according to a statement from MSP.
When troopers arrived, they found the Havre de Grace man standing in the parking area with his hands in the air, said police. He is currently being questioned by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit.
Police said they found a gun in the backyard of the apartment house where the shooting is believed to have occured and are sending the weapon for analysis.
Investigators are also questioning a 30-year-old Abingdon woman who they think was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Officials from the Aberdeen Police Department found the Aberdeen man in his car at a gas station on West Bel Air Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, reported MSP. He told officers that the Havre de Grace man shot him, police said.
The Aberdeen man is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to police.
Police are not identifying the men pending further investigation.
