Havre de Grace Police: 'No Foul Play' in Case of Woman Found Dead in River

Marie Rocco, 47, was discovered Oct. 5 in the Susquehanna River near Hutchins Park.

One week after a woman's body was found in the Susquehanna River, police said the investigation continues into the death of 47-year old Marie Rocco, who lived part-time in Havre de Grace.

"So far there's no indication that there is anyone else involved," Cpl. Brian Mumpower of the Havre de Grace Police Department said on Oct. 12.

On Oct. 5, police were alerted to a body in the water near Hutchins Park after two men who were there for fishing and photography reported the incident to 911, Mumpower said.

The body was identified as Rocco, who lved primarily in Vail, CO and had a second home in Havre de Grace, according to the Staten Island Advance. Her Maryland residence was on the 300 block of South Washington Street.

Police told Patch the death was being investigated as a homicide. That is standard in a death investigation, according to Mumpower.

"When you have an injury such as she has, you always investigate it as a homicide until your investigation proves otherwise," said Mumpower, who would not elaborate on the nature of the injury.

"There was absolutely no indication of foul play in this matter," he said.

Rocco's was the second body found in one month in the waters of the Susquehanna River. On Sept. 9, the body of a man in his 20s was found beneath the Amtrak bridge near Jean S. Roberts Memorial Park.

"There's no connection to the other body that was found," Mumpower said. "Two totally different sets of circumstances rule that out."

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said that test results for Rocco are pending. No further information was available.

Rocco was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was a dental assistant "whose greatest joy came from being with her family," the Staten Island Advance reported.

Her funeral service was Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Freehold Township, NJ, according to her obituary. Memorial donations should go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
