Raging Port Deposit House Fire Causes $175K in Damage

Crews from Harford and Cecil counties battled the blaze off MD Route 222.

A house fire in Port Deposit took firefighters more than an hour to control Friday afternoon and caused $175,000 in damage, the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.

At 12:17 p.m. on Friday, a neighbor discovered the fire in the 1000 block of Bainbridge Road/MD Route 222, the fire marshal said.

The blaze began in the living room, according to the fire marshal's report, and the cause remained under investigation Friday night. There were no injuries as a result of the blaze, the fire marshal reported.

Crews from Perryville, Water Witch, the Susquehanna Hose Company, Level, Perry Point, North East, Rising Sun and Charlestown battled the fire, which took 70 minutes to bring under control, the fire marshal said. Thirty-two firefighters responded, according to the report.

The fire caused $160,000 in structural damage, and $15,000 worth of items in the home were destroyed, the report stated.
