Police: HdG Little League Grudge Sparks Bar Fight

One man ended up at Harford Memorial Hospital, the Havre de Grace Police Department said.

Havre de Grace police say they are investigating a weekend assault that occurred between adults regarding youth sports.

A 23-year-old Havre de Grace man told police that he was at Coakley's Pub around 11:45 p.m. Saturday when a stranger came up to him and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

"The victim did not know who the individual was that struck him," Havre de Grace Police Department spokesman Pfc. Jeff Gilpin said.

The alleged assailant mentioned issues from the men's days playing Little League baseball, according to the report.

While the victim was on the ground, another man—someone he knew—started hitting him, according to police.

"It is believed that this was from when they were playing in Little League," Gilpin said. "A long time for a grudge."

The victim was able to get up and walk the .6 mile from the bar to the hospital, and at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, police were called to Harford Memorial Hospital in reference to the assault.

There were visible injuries to the man's head and face, police said.

Authorities have identified one potential suspect, and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information should contact the Havre de Grace Police Department at 410-939-2121.

Duane and Margie are both really great folks. They seem to have really hard working staff and the 'pub grub' is good too (best damn cream of crab soup in the state!). Anyway, having said that, we don't go there after about 8pm when it goes from a restaurant to more of a 'bar scene'. I wish the owners (Duane and Margie) all the luck in the world but, deservedly or not, Coakley's has acquired a reputation.... and stuff like this doesn't help.

Well said Captain Steve, Margie is a good person and has worked hard to keep Coakleys a nice place to eat. It is a good choice over the other overpriced restaurant in the area.

Sounds like a dive.

Coakleys needs to police their patrons, keep the rowdies out. But I don't think that's going to happen because there is just a lot of money to be made by selling a lot of alcohol to big drinking drunks. And that's what this is all about. Follow the money.

Hey Joe isn't a dive where you find barflies and cheap drinks, pay a visit then judge. Towney I thought people hade business to make a living and a profit, never seen drunks in this place just mostly everyday HdG people. Don't think the place a ton of money compared to the other over priced places in town.
