Harford County Sheriff's Office Identifies Fallen Deputy

The Harford County Sheriff's Office has lost two deputies in the past week.

UPDATED (3:39 p.m.)—The  has identified the second deputy to have died in the past week.

Sgt. Ian Loughran, 43, unknowingly suffered heart attack symptoms during  Wednesday and died early Thursday morning at his home, the sheriff's office said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

In the news release, Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane said: "Yesterday I spoke of a new star in the heavens when speaking of Charles Licato, today it seems a second star now joins him."

Loughran was a 16-year veteran of the department. Most recently, he was assigned to the Police Services Bureau, Patrol Division in the Northern Precinct.

He is survived by a wife and one child, the Sheriff's Office said.

It's the fourth law enforcement death in a week in Harford County.

This news is so sad. We are losing such good men who serve us on the Harford County Sheriff's office. My prayers are with Sgt. Loughran's family and his co workers who are suffering this loss. Peace and grace to you.

Lord I ask you PLEASE stop and end this sadness. We can't bear anymore heartbreak. Rest in peace and many prayers for your family, Ian. I wish I could turn back time Ian ,but you are now a guardian angel . Thank you for your service as you served us well . Thank you for the smiles/laughs and so many quick whitted jokes buddy! I am typing w/tears in my eyes. I will always remember you and miss you. Prayers for HCSO as well and EOC as this is such a trying horrible time. Rest easy bud you have God by your side now ....

Man it is scary that he was so young and didn't even know he was having a heart attack. I think most of us at that age would think it was just something we ate etc. Maybe his death won't be in vain and more people will get screened for heart conditions because of it. I know my next doctor visit will have me asking more questions and getting screened. May you rest in peace Cpl. Licato.
