Fatal Crash Near Rocks State Park Involved Alcohol, Speed: Sheriff

Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash that claimed the life of a Delaware teen Sunday night in Pylesville, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported.

The crash occurred in the 1000 block of St. Mary's Road near the MD Route 24 intersection at approximately 7:28 p.m. on Sunday, the sheriff's office said.

My Yuen Nguyen, 18, of Bear, DE, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

Nguyen was a passenger in a 2004 Ford 250 pickup truck that hit a pole and ejected her from the vehicle, the report said.

Pedro Rivera, 23, of Wilmington, DE, was driving the truck east on St. Mary's Road Sunday evening when it left the road and hit a pole, the sheriff's office reported.

According to The Aegis, Nguyen was in the front seat of the truck, which contained two other 18-year-old passengers from Newark, DE.

The group of four was headed home after visiting Kilgore Falls in Rocks State Park, the sheriff's office reported.

According to the initial investigation, alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, the sheriff's office said Monday.

The three individuals in the vehicle who survived were not injured, according to the sheriff's office.

In accordance with departmental policy, the Harford County State's Attorney's Office will review the case to determine whether charges will be filed, the sheriff's office reported.
