All lanes of Interstate 95 north were temporarily shut down due to a bus crash Friday afternoon at the exit for Havre de Grace, officials said.

Five passengers riding a Megabus were taken to Harford Memorial Hospital after the bus left the highway, went onto the right shoulder and hit a guardrail, police said. None was seriously injured—taking people to the hospital by ambulance was a precaution, according to the report from Maryland State Police.

The Megabus driver told police there may have been a mechanical problem with the bus, according to the report, which stated that officials were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

The bus was being towed to the Cecil County scale house for an inspection, according to Harford County Emergency Management.

At the time of the crash, there were 68 passengers plus the driver on the Megabus, which was headed from Washington, D.C., to New York, police said.

Its last stop was in White Marsh, where it picked up 25 passengers, according to the report.

Police and fire officials took passengers from I-95 to a nearby park and ride, where they were to be transported to the Maryland House rest area until another bus arrived, Maryland State Police said.

The bus would have to be towed from the scene by a heavy-duty tow truck, police said.

Maryland State Police said the crash was reported at 3:39 p.m. and lane closures would be in effect until 6 p.m. to allow for the bus to be towed. By 6:35 p.m., all lanes were cleared.

Traffic was congested on I-95 north and on US Route 40 eastbound as a result of the crash, Harford County Emergency Management reported.
