Letter: Art Walk was a Success

Liz and Paul Howshall recall a successful Art Walk in a letter to the editor.

Dear Patch,

The Annual Havre de Grace Art Walk was held on Sunday, October 9th, 2011. It was a beautiful, sunny day, perfect for a walk in downtown Havre de Grace, where local musicians Trumpeter, Paul Howshall, Guitarist, David Jaffe and students from The Maryland Conservatory of Music were playing. The musicians serenaded the public at different locations throughout the day. Art demonstrations by Visual Artists from throughout Maryland and Visual Art Students from Harford Community College, Cecil Community College and Towson University were located in front of participating businesses. We would like to thank the following businesses for their participation: , , , , , , , , RiverView Gallery, , The Tattered Barn, Vincenti Decoys, and . The public had the opportunity view art demonstrations, purchase local art and participate in the Art Walk by getting their flyers stamped at the above-mentioned businesses for the chance to win the “Art Walk Gift Basket.”

The Art Walk is a fun and educational event sponsored by .

Participating musicians provide fun and easy listening for the public to enjoy and as they stroll along to get their flyers stamped they have the opportunity to interact and learn from the demonstrations provided by visual artists. For the past four years the culmination of this event is the drawing for the “Art Walk Gift Basket,” which took place at Jana’s Java. This year’s Winner of the Art Walk gift basket was Laura Nussbaum from Washington, DC. The Art Walk gift basket is filled with great gifts donated by all the participating businesses in Havre de Grace.

As we begin to think and plan for our next “Art Walk” we sincerely want to thank all the participating businesses and artists.
