LETTER: Gahler Criticizes Sheriff's Jail Management

Jeff Gahler has announced he is running for Harford County Sheriff in 2014.

Jeffrey Gahler, a Republican who lost the race for Harford County Sheriff by less than a 3 percent margin in 2010, submitted a letter to local media criticizing Sheriff Jesse Bane's management of the Harford County Detention Center.

Gahler contends Bane has shown poor leadership by not bringing on a new warden and is ultimately responsible for a number of inmate deaths at the jail.

In June Gahler officially announced his intent to run for sheriff in 2014. He has submitted a series of letters to local media on the subject of the sheriff's office.

What's that Phil? How easy is it to be criticized when you want to take no responsibility? Like I said, good Obama model you are following. Answer questions with fiction and then get defensive when you are called on it. How did Ed Hopkins ever beat you out of the P.I.O. job?

Democrat or republican does not matter. Sheriff Bane is doing a great service to this community. To compare him to our teflon president is a disservice. And I am a republican.

As a voter it matters to me that Sheriff Bane does not feel the need to be open and honest with those who elected him. As a Republican I see the connection that Mr. Thompson is making and I believe he is right on the mark. The Sheriff claims the last inmate before this one is not a threat to himself and then it is discovered not only was he a known threat to himself, he had a history at the jail where they knew of his issues. If this were a one time event I would buy it being a mistake but there is a distinct pattern to Sheriff Bane being caught making statements that have been proven untrue. No different then what we are seeing at other levels of the democrat's party.

No, he isn't if he has not put into place the proper personnel that are needed for his organization to do their job. That is the exact opposite of 'great service'.

Sheila, drop it. Both Republicans and Democrats lie and prevaricate while in office. Neither part is more 'honest' than the other though the Democrats have a history of being more honest that the Republicans when you look at things in a neutral light.
