Hatem Bridge E-ZPass problem

I would be interested to see if other people are experiencing their E-ZPass not being recognized when crossing the bridge. This has happened to me on two consecutive occassions.

Happened once to me. However, I was on a motorcycle and just holding the transponder over my head. I am curious as to why there is only one true EZ pass lane. There are two decal lanes and the rest are cash/EZ pass. The EZ pass lane often is backed up more than the others.

Yep, and it has now cost us $135.00 in fines. The first excuse was i did not set up the transponder on line. Then it was the license plate was wrong. Then it was because I bought to the same day the transponders where stitched. Now come to find out my son had a transponder years ago and it went in the hole $25.00. Even though this transponder is under a different name and address some how it matched up so they turned off my daughters transponder. We have yet to get a notice in the mail. I happened to stop by the Ez-Pass office because I had a questions on another transponder I had bought. PS...she has yet to get the beep that is supposed to happen if you have an un-authorized transponder.

Sorry you all are having a problem with the EZ-Pass. I've had mine for about 7 years never had any problems at all, use it on the tunnels and the bridge. Hope they get it fixed for you.

Well I think EZ pass is accepted in the cash lanes if the EZ pass lane is backed up (although I wouldn't know why, it shouldn't back up much since you don't have to slow to a stop or near stop.)
But to answer the question, it's just until the AVI program expires (or maybe just one sooner, there has to be a steady decline in AVI use because stickers aren't being replace as they expire), then they will probably convert one or both of those lanes to EZ pass.

The one we have for my sons car did not work once. He went inside and told them as soon as it happened and again when we got the notice in the mail and they wiped it clean!

Happened to me just the other day. I was in the EZPass-only lane. When I didn't see "paid" show up on the screen I stopped to wait for an attendant, but some jack#@$# in a big truck behind me pulled up millimeters from my bumper and started honking. Two minutes of that and I was a shaking mess and just pulled out to get out of there. I heard a loud horn, which I'm assuming was the "you just violated the toll" sound. I'm waiting to get some kind of notice in the mail. If they try to charge me some kind of fine for their transponder not working, when I was vehemently opposed to the transponders in the first place, you can guarantee I'll be contacting my local representative.

Both my incidents were in the EZPass-only lane.
In view of the motorcyclists complains, and the fact that I drive a very low sports car, I am wondering if the height of the transponder is the problem. I have appealed my two notices, but I am all too aware of the intransigence of the MdTA, so I don't expect too much satisfaction. The infraction notices contain the following language: If you have an E-ZPass account with Maryland or another state and received this Notice ofToll(s) Due, we were unable to collect from your account due to one or more of the following reasons: • Your E-ZPass transponder was not properly mounted, is defective, or was not in your vehicle, and the vehicle's license plate is not listed on your E-ZPass account. My vehicle licence plate IS listed on my E-ZPass account, and there should be a system at MdTA where they can verify this and stifle tickets.

There could be a problem with the location of the transponder. Early on when Maryland first went to the EZpass system, there were some makes of cars that the windshield transponder would not work. Those folks were issued a unit that was attached to the top of the front license plate. I think this was mostly some vans that had a very large and tilted windshield.

My saga continues...after paying a large fine in June I just received another letter stating I now owe about 150.00 more in fines. I went to the JFK center and they said that I used my E-pass on the Bay Bridge? I have not been on the Bay Bridge in years. The fines are for the beginning of June. Some twice in one day. I was told for them to look into anything further I would need to pay the fine first. Again I will state this as a fact going to the Senior Center was the biggest mistake that I have made in the past year. It is not the Centers fault it is the Ez-Pass people who pretended to do their job that day. It will now take my about a year on my daughters car to make up the fines and she now has a job in Cecil county and will no longer be working Harford.

As stated above, I appealed both incidents on the E-Zpass website. I still received notices. I called the E-Zpass office, and both fines were cancelled.
