Tomato growers extraordinaire are setting themselves apart in Havre de Grace.
Since the summer, gardeners have been competing in the "Golden Tomato Contest" sponsored by the Havre de Grace Green Team.
Participants have put out signs in their gardens to identify themselves as contestants.
The idea? Grow the biggest juiciest tomato possible. Weigh-ins are done at Bahoukas Antique Mall at 408 N. Union Ave.
Entries will be accepted until Oct. 5 and must be grown in Havre de Grace.
The largest entry will be photographed and the photo will remain on display until it is replaced by a larger entry, the Green Team said in a press release. A stat sheet will be posted recording all entries to date and largest entry for the week.
The contest started July 20 and ends Oct. 5.
The winner will receive the Golden Tomato Award on Oct. 12.
Here are the official rules: 1) All entries must be grown within the city limits of Havre de Grace. 2) Individuals, partners or teams are invited to participate with the grand prize going to the tomato supplier. 3) Entries must consist of the combined weight of one tomato, one cucumber and one zucchini.
