Havre de Grace Cleans Up After Flood

Susquehanna River receded Friday night into Saturday, leaving mud and debris around the city.

Where there was water, there is now mud and debris.

Havre de Grace was in clean-up mode Saturday after the Susquehanna River receded from heavy flooding Thursday and Friday.

Originally projected to crest early Saturday, the river reached its maximum height Thursday afternoon for the third-highest recorded flooding at the Conowingo Dam. Only the ice storm of Jan. 1996 and Hurricane Agnes in 1972 ranked ahead of the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.

A robo call via Connect-CTY alerted Havre de Grace residents that significant damage was averted.

"The city is happy to report there were no injuries or serious damage to our infrastructure," the message said.

The community center at 100 Lagaret Lane will have dumpsters available for residents to haul debris on Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
