UPDATE: Conowingo Dam Opens Gates as Water Level Rises

Seven gates of the dam were open Saturday.

UPDATE (12:50 a.m.)—Conowingo Dam officials said seven gates were open just after midnight Saturday, and they may open up to 10 gates by 8:30 a.m.

Two of the dam's 52 gates, which contain the flow of the Susquehanna River, were opened as the water level rose Thursday; they remained open Friday morning.

"Drove through the Conowingo Dam Car Wash this morning," one Twitter user said Thursday. "Some serious spray coming over the wall."

By 4:30 p.m. Friday, officials had opened seven gates total and said the dam was operating under spill conditions.

Flooding also caused a mess in Aberdeen.

Approximately 3,000 gallons of partially treated sewage overflowed at Aberdeen Proving Ground after two inches of rain fell in a 24-hour period, officials said Friday.

The Department of Public Works in Havre de Grace said it had not received any reports of flood-related incidents as of Feb. 1.

But this week's weather roller coaster is not coming to a stop just yet.

Wind sent chills through Harford County Friday, with temperatures hovering around freezing and a gale warning in effect

Temperatures will remain below freezing Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, which said the high would be 31 degrees. Areas around the Chesapeake Bay remain under a small craft advisory Saturday.

The forecast shows snow could fall every day through Monday, Feb. 4.

Last Monday, a wintry mixed closed Harford County public schools on Jan. 28.

After that, temperatures climbed above 60 degrees by Wednesday, followed by pouring rain, a tornado watch and a cold front.
