Havre de Grace Sports Store Prepares for Super Bowl

It's game time for BallMore Sports on Franklin Street.

Ravens fever has taken hold in Havre de Grace, especially at BallMore Sports on Franklin Street.

T-shirts have been going fast at the sports memorabilia store, along with pretty much everything else it sells.

Ray Lewis hoodies sold out after two days, manager John Buwalda said.

"Because of the Super Bowl, people have been coming in and wanting something to wear for Sunday," Buwalda said, noting that helmets, necklaces, beer cozies and jerseys are particularly popular.

"I just got the last shirt on a hanger, and they've been selling like crazy," Buwalda said Friday, holding up a Super Bowl t-shirt with the Raven bird wearing a Ray Rice jersey, laden with Mardi Gras beads.

Customers have been pouring into the store, which Buwalda attributed not just to the Ravens' success but also to BallMore's prices.

"It's great we're going to the Super Bowl and we're going to win, but we're not trying to cash in like everybody else," Buwalda said. Prices have not changed as the Ravens have ascended in the league, he told Patch.

"What I'd rather see is to sell all my stuff, not try to make $10 more and have it sit on a hanger," Buwalda said. "We keep it at a good price and sell it."

Merchandise ranges from the $3.99 necklaces to $900 cleats worn by Ray Lewis. Customers' desires run the gamut too, the store manager said.

"Some people come in and want a $65 jersey ... and other people spend $500 on a helmet and helmet case," Buwalda said. "It's just a variety."

The back room is filled with autographed Ravens paintings by local artist Shawn Forton. Up front, Ravens bobbleheads greet customers in glass cases.

Buwalda hopes that by Tuesday, Ball More will have merchandise to celebrate the Ravens' Super Bowl win. "That's what I'm hoping," Buwalda said. "Fingers crossed, I can get that stuff quickly."

BallMore Sports is located at 452 Franklin Street in Havre de Grace. It's open 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday; 1 to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 12 to 8 p.m. Friday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
